We visit local elementary school classrooms to help children understand the need to be responsible pet owners, including making sure that companion animals are spayed or neutered.

We subscribe to Kind News (a magazine from the Humane Society of the United States) for 1st and 3rd graders on the Mendocino coast.

Two volunteers with a trained dog present the program and discuss the basics of what a pet needs.

Main topics include:
  • Love and Care
  • Spay/Neuter
  • Fresh Food and Water
  • Grooming
  • Socializing
  • Shelter
  • Exercise
  • Identification
  • Vet Check-Ups
  • Training
  • Play Time and Toys
  • Traveling with Pets
Other Considerations:
  • Agility Training
  • Lost Pets
  • Humane Treatment of Animals
  • Careers with Pets
  • Volunteering in our Community

Our experience is that children can help educate their parents, especially when it comes to subjects of interest to the kids! We hope that the children of the Mendocino coast will help us spread the message of the importance of responsible pet ownership.
